Getting the Best Results

Chinese herbal medicine works differently than many conventional treatments.

Rather than simply suppressing symptoms, the goal is to help support your body's natural ability to restore balance.

Because of this, improvements are often gradual.

For the best opportunity to evaluate your formula, I recommend taking it consistently for at least 4–6 weeks before deciding whether it's the right fit for you. Some people notice changes sooner, while others require more time.

Consistency is one of the most important factors for success.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long before I notice results?

Everyone responds differently. Some individuals notice changes within a few weeks, while others require more time. I generally recommend giving your formula 4–6 weeks of consistent use before evaluating your progress.

Why are there different formulas?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, eczema is not viewed as a single condition.

Different people may have different underlying patterns, which is why formulas are selected based on the presentation of your skin rather than the diagnosis alone.

How to make a paste with your granules.

1. Extinguish Fire Paste: for Blood Heat Eczema

Blood Heat eczema typically presents as intensely red, hot to the touch, dry, and fiercely itchy skin flares that often worsen at night.

  • Best Liquid Binder: Pure, 100% Aloe Vera Gel (preservative-free) or water.

  • Why It Works: Blood Heat requires cooling agents to clear surface heat and soothe inflammation. Aloe vera gel is highly cooling and hydrates the dry, parched skin barrier without trapping heat.

  • Application Method: Apply a thin layer of the smooth aloe-herbal paste to the red areas. Leave it on for 10 minutes. Do not let it dry completely into a crust, as this can irritate dry skin. Rinse gently with lukewarm water and immediately follow up with a thick, plain emollient (like pure shea butter) to lock in moisture.

2. Drain Fire Paste: for Damp-Heat Eczema

Damp-Heat eczema typically presents as swollen, weeping, oozing fluid, or covered in tiny blisters (vesicles) that may crust over.

  • Best Liquid Binder: Chilled Clean Water or a tiny amount of Raw Honey (only if the skin is not heavily weeping).

  • Why It Works: Weeping skin is already overloaded with "dampness." You want a clean, minimalist liquid like water to dissolve the granules so the astringent, damp-clearing herbs can do their job without adding heavy, occlusive layers. Honey can be used if the eczema is blistered but dry, utilizing its natural antimicrobial properties to prevent secondary bacterial infections.

  • Application Method: For active, oozing Damp-Heat eczema, a herbal compress (wash) is often safer and more effective than a thick paste. Dissolve your granules completely in a small bowl of lukewarm water, soak a sterile piece of gauze in the liquid, ring it out slightly, and lay it over the oozing skin for 10–15 minutes. Gently pat dry; do not apply heavy grease over heavily weeping sores.

How to Make the Topical Paste

  1. Grind to Powder: While they are called granules, Treasure of the East recommends grinding them down slightly with a small mortar and pestle to make them an even finer powder.

  2. Add Your Liquid: Slowly mix a small amount of aloe vera gel, honey, or warm water into the powder. Add it drop by drop.

  3. Stir to Dissolve: Stir continuously until the water-soluble granules fully dissolve and form a thick, uniform paste.

  4. Apply: Spread the paste onto the face or skin. Let it sit for 15–20 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with warm water.

Crucial Safety Steps for Eczema Skin

Because eczema involves a compromised skin barrier, you must handle herbal granules with extra care:

  • Always Patch Test First: Eczema skin is highly reactive. Mix a tiny drop of paste and apply it to a small patch of unaffected skin (like your inner arm) for 24 hours to ensure you don't react to the herbs or binder.

  • Avoid Open Wounds: If your eczema is actively bleeding, weeping, or raw from scratching, do not apply the paste directly to it. Let the skin close up first.

  • Keep the Application Short: Leave the paste on for 10 to 15 minutes max. Do not let it dry out completely on the skin, as removing a completely dried paste can tear fragile eczema scales. Rinse gently with lukewarm water.

  • Moisturize Immediately: As soon as you rinse the water-based paste off, immediately apply a heavy emollient (like pure shea butter or a fragrance-free ointment) while the skin is still damp to lock the hydration in.

🌱 What Happens Next?

Most people using Chinese herbal medicine continue treatment for several months while their body's underlying pattern is being addressed. If you're noticing improvement and are nearing the end of your bag, consider reordering before you run out so your progress isn't interrupted.
